Celebrating the Winners of the Academic Startup Competition 2025
The closing event of the Academic Startup Competition 2025 marked an inspiring milestone for academic entrepreneurship in the Netherlands. Hosted at Eindhoven University of Technology, the evening brought together more than 150 attendees from across the innovation ecosystem, including researchers, investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, to celebrate a new generation of science-based startups ready to make real-world impact.
After an intensive journey of coaching sessions, pitch training, and international exposure, spanning from Salt Lake City to Silicon Valley, ten outstanding academic startups were recognised as the winners of ASC 2025. Each of them demonstrated how cutting-edge research can evolve into scalable ventures addressing global challenges.

The Academic Startup Competition proudly honours the following ten winning teams:
ATA Mute B.V. – acoustic and thermo-acoustic noise reduction solutions for OEMs
Carapace Biopolymers – bioactive, biodegradable seed coatings for sustainable agriculture
CIWI – electrochemical technology for sustainable water treatment
FlowBeams – needle-free laser micro-jet drug delivery systems
IMChip – ultra-low-power neuromorphic chips for edge AI
MimeCure – regenerative cell therapy for COPD
MycoFarming® – fungi solutions for soil and water purification
QT Sense – quantum-sensing nanodiamonds for live-cell radical detection
VirXcel – antiviral macrocyclic peptides for respiratory infections
YSVOGEL – precision medical device for accurate ostium stent placement
Together, these startups reflect the diversity and strength of Dutch academic innovation, spanning fields such as health technologies, sustainable materials, AI hardware, and environmental solutions.
A Night of Inspiration and Connection
The closing event featured inspiring contributions from key leaders across the innovation ecosystem, including Constantijn van Oranje-Nassau (Techleap), Erwin Nijsse (Ministry of Economic Affairs), and Margrethe Jonkman (VU Amsterdam). A panel discussion with Mirjam van Praag, Caspar van den Berg, and Hamed Sadeghian provided further insight into the future of academic entrepreneurship. The evening was expertly moderated by Irene Rompa and was characterised by a vibrant atmosphere of celebration, connection, and shared ambition.
More than a closing moment, the event symbolised a launchpad for the next phase of growth for these ventures.

The success of ASC 2025 was made possible by a strong community of supporters. Team captains, trainers, experts, speakers, jury members, partners, and host locations across the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States all contributed to guiding these startups from lab to market.
Together, they continue to strengthen the bridge between academic excellence and entrepreneurship — helping researchers transform scientific knowledge into tangible societal impact.
